Although a bitterly cold day there was a great buzz around for the last two races of the Ward Union Hunt Point to Point held at the Folly on Sunday 11th February 2018.
There was a race jumps race for the braver members and subscribers who donned their racing colours and became jockeys to tackle a 1 lap race over the Point to Point fences on their non-thoroughbred horses. All riders had to carry 12 stone (or over!!!) and had attended a schooling morning to assess if the horse and rider were capable.
Jockeys in the jumps race were;
Timmy Carberry (Ward Union)
Barry Tormey (Ward Union)
John Bobbett (Ward Union)
Graham Quinn (Ward Union)
Dave Bennett (Fingal Harriers)
Justin O’Brien (Fingal Harriers)
Cathy O’Leary Ward Union (Ward Union)
Joey Moore Ward Union (Fingal Harriers)
The race was won by Cathy O’Leary, easily beating all the men home on the day!
For the first time there was a Lady Members Flat Race at The Folly open to all members and subscribers of the Ward Union and Fingal Harriers. The ladies participating were as follows;
Dervala Quinn (Fingal Harriers)
Anne Marie Ryan Quinlan (Ward Union)
Aine Scully (Fingal Harriers)
Anna McArdle (Fingal Harriers)
Niamh Harvey (Fingal Harriers)
Roisin O’Scanaill (Fingal Harriers)
Carol Stone (Ward Union)
Emma Carberry (Ward (Union)
Jill Carberry (Ward Union)
Dearbhla Quinn was a stylish winner of the Ladies race, crossing the line with a comfortable lead.
Both races were kindly sponsored by Sharon O’Buchalla of Leaseplan.
Keith Donoghue was on hand and acted as the official pace maker for the first part of the race.
Well done to all who took part in a great fun fundraiser.
